Attorney Profile

Yualande is a Partner and Founder of Yualande Christopher & Associates, Attorneys-at-Law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) Degree from the University of the West Indies and was admitted to the Jamaican Bar in 2005.

She has engaged in an extensive range of legal practice including corporate and commercial law and civil litigation. Yualande is also experienced in complex civil and commercial disputes and particular emphasis on shareholder rights and contracts and has over 11 years of experience in a wide range commercial and litigation matters and had this to say:-

“The advantage of being a Commercial Law Advocate is that you see a lot of matters at the back end, when it all goes wrong and you’re hired to fix it in court. Having seen how so many go wrong, it gives you great perspective when drafting commercial agreements, to structure them to stand up to judicial scrutiny”

She has defended the interests of major international companies including a large financial institution based in Europe, Pharmaceutical companies, global tax experts and a wide range of household named companies with interest in Jamaica. When companies want to know if Jamaica is the best option for a new commercial or real property, it is Yualande they trust to conduct detailed investigation and present them with relevant, practical and through advice.

In addition to her commercial and civil law experience, she has considerable experience in litigating family law matters and personal injury, having represented the largest group of injured persons in a class action suit, brought by employees against their US based, multinational employers.

She has collaborated with The Embassy of France on a bipartisan program to strengthen the communication and cultural alliance between France, which she considers her second home and Jamaica. Her assignment saw her living and working in France for almost a year and she continues to work closely with the French Embassy and its affiliate L’Alliance Française de la Jamaïque.

She is a former marker of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Law Paper and a former tutor of CAPE Law at the Pre-University of the West Indies. Yualande is a former tutor at the Jamaica Foundation for the Advancement of Literacy (JAMAL) program now The Adult Learning Institute of Jamaica, which teaches literacy and numeracy to adults and a former tutor in Remedies, Civil Practice and Procedure I at the Norman Manley Law School, in Kingston, Jamaica. She is also a member of the Jamaica Environmental Trust (JET) and the Social Committee and Civil Procedure Rules Committee of the Jamaican Bar Association.
